Union Sanborn/Southwick School PTO Meeting Minutes Thursday, May 03, 2012 6:30pm Southwick Media Center In attendance: Rick Honer, Julie Nieder, Heidi Carey, Cindy Cilley, Mr. Hines, Mrs. Laureti, Renee O’Brien, Julie Swain and Leigh-Anne Phelps. Rick called the meeting to order at 6:30pm. The minutes of the April 4, 2012 meeting were approved through email by the board. Cindy Cilley presented the Treasurer’s report. Rick motioned to accept, Rich seconded. Motion carried. Julie Nieder spoke about the spring fundraiser. She has heard great comments regarding this fundraiser and recommends that we do it next year. Judie Milner is working with Jonathan Dupuis to get Dipsy Doodle gift cards for volunteer appreciation gifts. Attendees discussed teacher appreciation week scheduled for May 7th through May 11th. Each teacher will receive a $45 gift card. Rick will do a flyer for each school. Monday, Leigh Anne will drop off candy and flowers. Tuesday is all set. Wednesday is pizza from Constantly Pizza and is all set. Thursday, Rick getting apples for the teachers and Julie is dropping off cards for the principals. Heidi will handle the “raffle” on Friday. Rick is chairing the Mom’s breakfast scheduled for May 16th at Southwick and May 23rd at Union. Flyers are out for Southwick and will be for Union shortly. Simple decorations will be done using what we have from the valentine’s teacher breakfast. June 5th grade graduation is scheduled for Friday, June 15th. There are 78 students. PTO will get 2 cakes at BJ’s. Heidi will get the balloons. Need to get tablecloths, plastic ware, and napkins. Punch (ginger ale and sherbet) will be served – the punch bowl is in the kitchen. Water will be served as well. Cindy is checking out Kowabunga & Crazy Kids as incentives for the fundraiser top sellers. Attendees discussed what programs the PTO can support for the schools. Kindle Fires would be great for books online. They are $200 each and Rich would like to purchase 20-25 so 1 full class would have them. Rich is going to talk to the Middle school about how it’s going with their Kindles. Kathleen would like to do trade books which rotate between teachers/classrooms. Cost is $250-300. Kathleen will let the PTO know soon – PTO can do this now. The ending expected balance for the PTO in June is around $15,000. Talked about the current artist in residence – all good comments. The artist in residence next year at Union will be an outside learning garden.
