Cindy motioned to approve the minutes of June 7, 2012 and July 19, 2012, Bridget seconded. Motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report
Cindy reported that the PTO made $33 at the school open houses. Also, the check for the rock wall has been cut – it was 199.99 more than originally thought. Judie motioned to approve the treasurer’s report, Mr. Hines seconded. Motion carried.
Open House/Volunteers
Renee is adding a column to spreadsheet for student’s grade level. This will give us the ability to track how long to leave the name in the Groupvine software for PTO announcements.
Teachers Valentine’s Breakfast
Mrs. Williams, high school home economics teacher will provide fruit salad for the event. It counts part of the students required volunteer hours.
Fall Fundraiser
Cindy Cilley reported that the kick off meetings are tomorrow at 1:30 for Union Sanborn and 2:30 for Southwick. Students will receive angry birds bracelets if they sell 3 items, 12” angry bird for top class, $100 Toys R Us for top student in each school, students 15 items or more invited to private party by bus (either Kowabunga or Krazy Kids) without parents, prize for top classroom may be an ice cream party but has not been determined. Last year about 50 students sold over 15 items; Cindy is expecting about the same this year. Need volunteers for the private party for children who sold over 15 items; we must maintain a 12:1 student/volunteer ratio. Cindy is thinking about scheduling the private party in November.
Fall Festival (Heidi joined meeting via phone for this agenda item)
Benson’s Auto has donated bouncy slide; Benson’s wishes to put car with an advertisement sign on it at the festival; 200 pumpkins have been ordered from Apple Tree Nursery for $1 each; Heidi has not been able to get an answer from the Tilton/Northfield Fire Dept regarding having a fire truck at the festival – Judie will talk to Chief LaChapelle in Franklin; Judie reported that we should hear from Fish & Game in the next couple of days about whether or not they can be at the festival because the festival is scheduled in Moose hunting season they are having trouble securing someone to do the event; Cindy Cilley reported that games are all set; Judie reported that food (Franklin Fire Dept) and tractor rides (Chris Milner) are taken care of; Rick will find out about music, paper cutters and Tilton School volunteers; both Heidi and Judie have secured hay & corn stalks donated from Swains and Shaw & Son; Leigh Anne will check with agriculture building at Winnisquam high school about doing an educational hands on booth.
Meeting Time Change
Ms. Kitto, who provides the free day care for parents attending the PTO meeting, asked if the meetings could be completed by 7:30 pm at latest. The group considered changing time to 6pm. Cindy looked at last year’s survey – some will like 7-8 which doesn’t work – 2 said 4:30-5:30pm – the group decided to leave the time the same (6:30-7:30) and have someone relieve Ms. Kitto at 7:30 should it be necessary.
School Spirit Committee
Mrs. Dehner is the teacher in charge of this new committee this year for staff. Mrs. Dehner asked if the PTO could order staff/adult spirit wear – PTO’s spirit wear is better quality than what they had gotten on their own. In addition, bulk ordering will be less expensive. Group recommended that the spirit committee pick a few items for all teachers to pick from to keep costs low. Teachers will pay for the spirit wear but will order through us so the PTO picks up a small mark up to add to our fundraiser revenue. Cindy will call DeeDee and pass Bridget’s number on to her for questions. The group considered opening up the adult spirit wear to parents as well. This thought will be discussed further in future meetings.
Boo Hoo Brunch
Mrs. Proulx thanked the PTO for assistance with Boo Hoo brunch. Maybe next year, PTO can be on hand for the teacher meet n greet on the 1st day as well because some parents can’t get two days off from work.
Holiday Shoppe
Rachel Shannon volunteered to do the holiday shoppe on Dec 8th.
Next Meeting
The next PTO meeting will be Thursday, October 11th at 6:30 in the Southwick Media Center.
Meeting adjourned at 7:45pm.
