Judie reported that thank you cards have been sent to Applebee’s, the radio stations and Autoserv for use of the jumbotron. Volunteers will be recognized in the next backpack express. The group discussed the flow of the new way Applebee’s does the event this year and how it did not seem to work. However, the group thought the additional items (eggs & bacon) in addition to pancakes were well received. The group may consider something different next year like renting the Pines. Teachers Breakfast The teacher’s breakfast is scheduled for Friday, Feb 15th. The group decided to give each school a $200 gift card to Staples. Cindy will pick up the gift cards. Leigh Anne will check with Lakes Region cupcakes for possible gifts instead of chocolate lollipops this year. Renee will be contacting Big Cats to get coffee. 2 more volunteers are needed: one to assist Leigh Anne at Union and one to assist Judie at Southwick. Leigh Anne will check the cabinets at each school for decorations and get more if needed. Dinner & Movie Cindy reported that the dinner & movie event is scheduled for 4/5. She is still deciding on movie choices and dinner choice. Skate Escape Leigh-Anne is still playing phone tag with the contact at Skate Escape; however Leigh-Anne has emailed her questions. Leigh-Anne is hoping to schedule the event for 3/16. The PTO can have a bake sale – Skate Escape has a pizza deal for $11 per pizza; the group discussed selling candy, glow necklaces, drinks, snacks. Leigh-Anne will check with Skate Escape to make sure this is p permissible. Dance The group discussed the dance. Keeping it a family event where parents must stay. Group discussed the need for some clarification on several details of the event – will 1st and 5th graders be there? Selling drinks and candy? What will be played? Who will be chaperoning? Etc. Mr. Hines reiterated his concern based on his experience with these types of events. Specifically just a dance does not work at this age group – girls end up crying in corners. However having someone teaching a dance to focus them works great. Cindy will send email info to Bridget for Sarah Jenna. Group decided to table this discussion at this point until we can get more info on what’s going on. Book Exchange The group discussed the book exchange – possibly charging 5 cents per book and donating proceeds to an animal shelter or other charity. The group discussed why we were thinking of charging for the books so that students take ownership and pride and help out the community. It means more to the student. The group discussed the possibility of having coupons so if a student brings a can of pet food, he/she can get a book for free. The group discussed possibly having the exchange at the fall festival. Leigh-Anne will put a box in each school to collect book donations during read across America week 2/18-2/22. Tanger Outlet Grant Dollar amount of awards given out vary based on how many schools applied. Bridget will write grant which is due mid March. The group discussed asking for a small group of tablets to check out of library or a whole classroom. Other Business Judie reported that the cards from NH correctional industries were great and cost only $60 vs. the $180 next best quote. Judie thanked Mr. Hones for the contact. Bridget contacted t-ball and baseball to move ice cream social so it will not interfere with district budget meeting. Mr. Hines talked about the overwhelming response by students to drama club headed up by Ms. Wisler. Mr. Hines explained that the drama club will need money for the following: $255 for royalties and $100 for costumes and asked if the PTO could assist. Judie motioned for the PTO to assist with $355 for drama club, Cindy seconded. Motion carried. Co-presidents are going to re-visit the spirit gear for teacher’s spirit group. The current catalog is too big and too expensive. Spirit committee wanted PTO to get something back from it. Group discussed the possibly sending out a survey monkey survey to teachers for input. Group discussed a “kid” boot camp put on by Local Fit Club at Autoserv dealership. If we did this event it would have to be done through PTO not school because Local Fit Club is a for profit business. Meeting adjourned at 7:30pm.
